BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

Arctic Foxes were rare, and their brood was found in a single dens of 12 surveyed. Solitary pairs of Rough-legged Buzzards bred, and found nests contained no more than one chick. Chicks were fed with birds, as we feathers of Willow Grouse and Black-throated Diver in nests. Alarming pairs of Arctic and Long-tailed skuas were rarely seen, while Pomarine Skuas were not recorded. Snowy Owls were rare and did not breed.
Ducks were not numerous, and occurred mostly in small flocks of 3-10 birds, but larger flocks of up to 30 Greater Scoups were recorded in the vicinity of the Mordyyakha River, and flocks of King Eiders of similar size were observed near sea coast.
Black-throated Divers were unusually abundant, while numbers of Willow Grouse were average.Grown up but not fledged chicks were recorded in Greater Golden Plover, Ringed Plover and Ruff. Well flying juvenile Dunlins, Temminck's Stints, Little Stints and Red-necked Phalaropes (the latter in small numbers) were observed in the end of July.

Rodent dynamics:

Lemmings were not recorded while voles occurred in low numbers.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Arvicola terrestrisrare
Microtus sp.rare
Clethrionomys sp.rare

Summary of fauna studies:

Absolute counts of birds were carried out on a plot, and their distribution was evaluated.
